Avenida Velasco Ibarra fully closed in Quito due to La Vicentina fire work

Avenida Velasco Ibarra, a major thoroughfare in Quito, was fully closed on September 14, 2026, as emergency teams worked to eliminate risks following the La Vicentina fire. The closure affected all lanes of the avenue. El Comercio reported full closure, citing ongoing firework operations. El Universo, however, noted partial closure, stating that two lanes in the south-north direction were open between El Trébol and the Coliseo Rumiñahui. Emergency teams remained in the area to ensure safety during the work.
