Russia Launches Attacks on Kyiv Power Grid as Winter Approaches

Russia launched multiple strikes on Kyiv's power grid on September 30, 2026, targeting substations and transmission lines. The attacks, reported by several outlets, caused widespread blackouts across the city. Ukrainian authorities stated that the strikes were part of a broader campaign to weaken Kyiv's energy resilience ahead of the winter season. The attacks were confirmed by multiple sources, including Bangkok Post, AFP, and Arab News, which reported the strikes as part of a coordinated effort. No official confirmation from Russian authorities was provided, though the timing aligns with previous patterns of targeting Ukrainian infrastructure. The impact on civilians has been significant, with hospitals and heating systems affected in some areas. The event has intensified discussions about the humanitarian impact of the conflict, particularly as winter approaches. Ukrainian officials have called for international support to restore power infrastructure, while Russian state media have not commented on the specific strikes.
